Ivan Orkin has had success with his signature ramen in Tokyo and New York City, and now, the world-famous chef is bringing his shop to different spots around the country. He’s offering his dishes as takeout at Blue Sushi Sake Grills across the United States, meaning that New York’s popular ramen is coming to Preston Hollow.

The Blue Sushi Sake Grill at Preston Hollow Village will offer Orkin’s famous ramens, including his Tonkotsu, Spicy Red Chile, Vegan Shoyu and Tokyo Shio, starting Feb. 18. It will also serve Japanese Fried Chicken and Steamed Pork Buns with soy-plum glaze and pickled daikon, among other dishes.

Orkin began his culinary journey as a dishwasher before enrolling at the Culinary Institute of America. After various stints at different restaurants, he opened his first Ivan Ramen shop in Tokyo. He quickly became one of the top ramen shops in the oversaturated ramen market, and then opened another location in Japan before making his way to Clinton Street in New York City. This Big Apple’s flagship shop is hugely popular, and earned him a feature on Netflix’s “Chef’s Table.”

Flagship, the parent company of Blue Sushi Sake Grill, partnered with Orkin after the COVID-19 pandemic placed more of an emphasis on delivery.

“As we started to pivot towards delivery, we recognized just how quickly consumers were themselves pivoting towards delivery and third-party delivery platforms, and saw the rise of some of these ghost kitchen types of concepts,” Nick Hogan, co-founder and CEO of Flagship, told Restaurant Hospitality. “We thought his menu lent itself to delivery, and we both thought this would be a cool way for us to partner not only through the pandemic, but in the future together.”

Orkin has since had a hand in training restaurant staffs to prepare his dishes, and as the program has rolled out already in places like Lincoln, Neb., reception has been positive.

“I’m thrilled that I can give people an authentic experience that’s on par with what they’d have at my Clinton Street location, in the comfort of their homes in locations like Lincoln, Nebraska or Dallas, Texas,” Orkin said to Restaurant Hospitality.

Ivan Ramen is available at Blue Sushi Sake Grill beginning Feb. 18.
