St. Mark’s is mourning a loss in their community, as Director of Communications Katy Booras Rubarth lost her battle with cancer on Feb. 4, 2021.

Rubarth, a mother of three, joined the school’s community as a parent before stepping into her role. Her three sons are all previous or current St. Mark’s students, and she joined the advancement team in 2009. Throughout her years as the Director of Communications, Rubarth’s planning helped the school to redesign their website and host major events, including commencement and homecoming, among others.

“Katy loved her colleagues, our graduates, and most important, she loved our boys,” said David Dini, Eugene McDermott Headmaster, in a message to the community. “Her passing will certainly leave a hole in our lives. And yet, she would expect us to carry on and continue to serve every Marksman with the same determination, compassion, respect, and optimism that so epitomized how she lived each day.”

Beyond her role on the advancement team, Rubarth also impacted the students’ lives. The class of 2020 dedicated the Marksmen yearbook to Rubarth, citing her courage and honor as the reason for the honor. Her son Charlie snapped the photo accompanying the dedication.

“This dedicatee so perfectly fits the tone of this book and this year. She was selected because of the personal impact she had on all of our lives,” Reid Goldsmith, editor, said.

Rubarth is survived by her three sons, Andy, Charlie and Oliver. Read more about her impact here.
