America’s Language Working Group added Walnut Hill Elementary to the Guide to Exemplary Programs and Practices in U.S. Language Education for the school’s trilingual instruction.

According to the America’s Languages website, the purpose of the guide is to recognize programs that increase access to effective learning practices, thereby attracting support for language education.

All students at Walnut Hill are taught Mandarin Chinese, and the school offers two-way dual-language programs to make students bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish, according to The Hub.

“There’s a tradition of teachers who stay here and get better at their craft, and work every year to refine and improve our language programs,” Walnut Hill Elementary Principal Phillip Potter tells the Hub. “They’re prioritizing access to language and communication, and they’re the reason why our campus is being recognized on a national level.”
