Dougherty’s Pharmacy, currently in Preston Royal, will be open April 12 in its new location only a couple miles north, at the corner of Preston Road and Interstate 635, the Dallas Morning News reported.

It will be larger, updated and yes, sweeter. That’s thanks to Marvyn Sacher, the owner of Neuhaus Cafe, who will be running Dougherty’s Old Fashioned Soda Fountain inside the pharmacy’s new space. Sacher plans to sell “elaborate milkshakes,” like the s’mores shake, as well as coffee and tea.

He wants to capture the nostalgia and atmosphere of the now-closed Highland Park Soda Fountain, which was 106 years old when it shut its doors in 2018.

The soda fountain will probably open shortly after the pharmacy opens in the former Spring Creek Barbeque restaurant space. Dougherty’s, which first opened in Oak Cliff in 1929, will be outfitted with a drive-thru.

Dougherty’s Pharmacy will be located at 12835 Preston Road. Store hours are 6 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday-Friday.
