Update 4/23: Here is a statement from Dallas Fire Rescue about the status of the station:

“Design services were retained in October 2020; however, procurement for canopies was approved by City Council on February 10, 2021. Construction permitting finalization is pending. Site preparation is expected to be completed by Summer 2021. The temporary station is expected to be complete and in-service in late Summer 2021, subject to the resolution of outstanding items related to fire personnel needs.”

Progress is being made at the temporary Fire Station No. 41 on Royal Lane.

The station will replace, for the time being, the “Preston Royal Fire Department” that was hit during the 2019 tornado and destroyed in 2020.

A statement from District 13 Councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates earlier this year said the temporary station would open in June at 5807 Royal Lane, at the northeast corner of Royal and Dallas North Tollway.

That may still be the case, as a building permit application was submitted April 20 to construct the new building. Records show the station will occupy 2,650 square feet, and trades listed are building, customer service, electrical, energy code, grading and paving, green certifications and plumbing.

Plans for the station include an asphalt parking lot, a concrete entrance, fencing, a gate, an office trailer and a fire apparatus dome, where the fire engine will be stored.

The permanent one is tentatively scheduled to be completed May 2022.

Below is the plan for the temporary station.
