Seventh- and eighth-grader teams at E.D. Walker Middle School placed in the top three in the region for the academic pentathlon.

The seventh-grade team won third place, and the eighth-grade team placed second. More than 20 schools competed.

Subjects included on the written test are math, social studies, science, literature, fine arts and Super Quiz, which is an oral relay in front of a large audience in which students work to answer ten multiple-choice questions.

The pentathlon is meant to prepare students for the octathlon and decathlon competitions.
