Several of The Hockaday School‘s athletic teams are nearing the end of their seasons, and many left the competitions with wins.

After a win against Lamar on May 8, the lacrosse team faced off against Southlake on May 9 at St. John’s and won the game 14-11 to finish the season as state champions.

Hockaday crew competed in USRowing’s Central Youth Championships, and every boat that advanced past the time trials earned medals. The V2X won second, the 2V 4X won first, and U17 4X won second, and the Frosh 4X won first. Though the V1X team won first place in the time trials, they opted out of the final to attend prom. Two teams, the U17 4X and V2X, will compete in Youth Nationals in Florida in June.

The varsity golf team played in a tournament against St. John’s at Brookhaven Country Club on May 8. Sarah Wright ’21, Doris Zhang ’21, Julia Haetzel ’22, Julia Katzman ’22, Alexandria Habimana ’23 and Alyssa Kurji ’24 played well on the front nine but couldn’t defeat their opponents on the back nine. Habimana won second place as an individual.

Track and field athletes also performed well in the SPC meet. Senior Kate Clark won the 400-meter, and Margaret Thompson won the 3200-meter. The 4×400 meter relay team of Phoebe Miller ’23, Alyssa Taylor ’21, Riley Carter ’22 and Clark also won the race.
