Update (May 27 at 5:30 p.m.): Joseph Sotelo was named Dallas ISD’s principal of the year.

Joseph Sotelo was the only administrator from a Dallas ISD high school in our neighborhood nominated for the award. He has been at Hillcrest since 2018 and is appreciated for his work to build trust, respect and compassion and his “calm and steady” leadership.

Six staff members at secondary schools throughout the district were nominated, and the list was narrowed down to two finalists. Principal Marian Willard of James Madison High School was the other finalist.

There were two finalists in the choice/magnet school category and three finalists in the elementary school category. Adrian Luna, the principal of Nathan Adams Elementary, was nominated for the honor but is not a finalist.

No representatives from schools in Preston Hollow won last year.
