Our neighbor Luka Dončić has proved himself yet again.
The Mavs guard clinched a place on the 2020-21 All-NBA First Team, which also includes guard Steph Curry, forwards Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, and center Nikola Jokic.
This marks the second consecutive season our neighbor has earned the honor. It also makes him the youngest player in league history to secure multiple All-NBA First Team selections. And it places him among basketball greats such as George Gervin, Larry Bird, David Robinson and Tim Duncan, who earned all-NBA first team at least twice in their first three seasons, since the NBA/ABA merger.
Being named to the team means Dončić can now receive a Rose Rule rookie extension. That would allow him to earn up to 30% of the cap when his new deal goes into effect for the 2022-23 season, according to CBS Sports. The contract extension is projected to be worth more than $200 million over five years.
In the regular season, Dončić averaged 27.7 points, 8.6 assists, 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 34.3 minutes. He also picked up 26 double-doubles and 11 triple-doubles.
