Newly admitted students to the Chicago school are given the opportunity to recognize teachers who have influenced them.

Here’s how the university describes outstanding educators: “An Outstanding Educator shapes young minds in meaningful ways — thoughtfully approaching instruction, sharing an infectious love for learning, and caring for students both inside and outside of the classroom.”

Award winners receive a commemorative award, certificate and letter that includes details from the student who nominated them.

A teacher at Hillcrest High School also won the award and was one of four Dallas ISD teachers to do so.
