Discover Dallas ISD kick-starts the application period for the district’s choice programs for the 2022-2023 school year.  Our virtual webinars on Nov. 6 and 13, as well as Dec. 4, allow families to learn about the more than 100 choice schools and programs offered in our schools.  Families are also able to connect directly with school representatives to learn more about the programs offered and find the best-fit school for their children. To learn more about Discover, the various choice programs, or how to apply, visit: https://www.dallasisd.org/choosedallasisd, or https://www.dallasisd.org/descubre for Spanish.

Free internet has benefited over 9,000 families

One of the lessons from last year’s pandemic was the importance of ensuring that every student had access to reliable internet to support learning at home. Although delivering individual hotspots to students was a successful short-term measure, it became clear that more permanent solutions were needed. To help close the digital divide in Dallas ISD, at the beginning of the school year we began offering our families free high-speed home internet.

The original deadline for free internet was Aug. 31, but due to the program’s success, we extended the date to Nov. 15. Thanks to this program, over 9,000 district families have a reliable connection to continue their 2021-2022 school year studies.

Homeless Education program helps connect homeless students with the help they need

November is Homeless Youth Awareness Month, and the district’s Homeless Education program wants our homeless families and students to know that it’s okay to ask for help. After a tough year due to the pandemic, the department’s job is to ensure that homeless students get enrolled and connect with vital resources like food, counseling, transportation, uniforms, and much more. Families and students who find themselves in this situation need to contact their school’s main office or the Homeless Education program at: https://www.dallasisd.org/domain/109 to receive information and help.

Deadline approaching to apply for vaccination incentives

Dallas ISD students and staff who want to apply for their vaccination incentives have until Nov. 15 to do it. To participate, applicants need to visit https://www.dallasisd.org/studentvaxincentive or https://www.dallasisd.org/vaccineincentive, fill in the application and submit. It is that easy!

Participation in this incentive program is entirely voluntary and based on personal preference. However, the information provided will help the district determine how many people have been fully vaccinated and facilitate the contact tracing and quarantine processes, creating a safer space for everyone.

Recognitions in District 1

U.S. News and World Report ranked our very own George B. Dealey Montessori Academy among the top 100 elementary and middle schools in Texas–and the fourth-best middle school in the state. Principal Wing and her staff work tirelessly to prepare students for success in tomorrow’s global community. Thanks to their efforts, Dealey students are gaining the knowledge and skills they will need to function productively in today’s interconnected world.
