Deron Williams, a former Dallas Mavericks player, will make his professional boxing debut next month.

The Preston Hollow neighbor will fight NFL running back Frank Gore in a match on the Jake Paul-Tommy Fury undercard on Dec. 18.

Gore has been training in boxing for years. Williams is a longtime fan of combat sports and has trained for years in mixed martial arts. He’s also a part-owner in the Fortis MMA gym in Deep Ellum.

Williams, who last played in the NBA in 2017, is six inches taller than Gore. Both athletes are contractually limited to weighing no more than 215 pounds for the fight.

Our neighbor played with the Dallas Mavericks 2015-17. His career in the NBA started in 2005, when he signed with the Utah Jazz. He is a three-time NBA All-Star and two-time all-NBA player and won two gold medals with the U.S. men’s Olympic basketball team.

The Showtime pay-per-view event begins at 8 p.m.
