Neighbor Dirk Nowitzki is being honored for his long tenure with the Dallas Mavericks.

The team will be retiring his jersey, No. 41, next month during the Jan. 5 home game against the Golden State Warriors.

Nowitzki played all 21 seasons with the Mavericks, setting a record for any player with one team. Also, with 51,368 minutes, he played more than any other athlete in a Dallas uniform.

In addition, he leads the franchise in most games played, points, rebounds, blocks and 3-pointers. Nowitzki retired after the 2018-19 season but joined the franchise as a special adviser in June.

“Dirk is everything to the Mavs,” neighbor and team owner Mark Cuban said. “First, 41.21.1. And now, lifting his jersey to the rafters. It is a special day for the Mavs and Mavs fans around the world.”

Our neighbor was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team last month, along with basketball legends including Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and more.

The ceremony will take place after the game, with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Mark Cuban and Jason Kidd attending.
