Let the late Charley Pride bring Christmas home this weekend.

Pride’s 1970 album Christmas in My Hometown opens with the title track, which is surprisingly underutilized in auto makers’ commercials. Does it not make you want to buy a Lexus? The album also includes  “Santa and the Kids,” with its hilariously trite opening line, “Christmas time is here again, like every year before…”

Pride, who died of COVID-19 following his appearance at the CMAs in 2020, also wrote “Happy Christmas Day” for the album. It was recorded in August of 1969, as soon as Pride had his first hits on RCA.
