The Dallas Mavericks celebrated two Dallas ISD teachers at a recent home game, and one of them teaches at Hillcrest High School.
Steven Santoyo graduated from Hillcrest in 2015 and now teaches English there. He and Nicole Carryl, who were nominated by Teach for America, watched the game from a suite and received Mavericks gear, Academy gift cards and some other items.
“Tonight’s a celebration for the teachers that are my support teachers, my co-teachers, all of the people behind the scenes that never get a shout out,” Santoyo said in a video. “I think tonight, we’re celebrating them, too.”
Neighbor and Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall was also in attendance at the celebration.
“They truly are the ones that are securing the future every single day,” Marshall said.
