Three Preston Royal Shopping Center businesses were smash-and-grab victims early Saturday morning.

The glass front doors of Ken’s Man’s Shop, Cousin Earl and Lucy’s Tailor were each shattered around 5:45 a.m. Saturday, and an unknown number of thieves entered the shops primarily to steal cash, according to two of the business owners.

“Just glass everywhere and on clothing,” says Kory Helfman with Ken’s. “Took all of the cash from us and some sale merchandise.”

“They took cash and left clothes and even that iPad,” says Jeannie Bicknell with Cousin Earl, gesturing to an iPad sitting over the cash box location.

By Sunday afternoon, Cousin Earl’s door had been partially repaired, but the doors for Ken’s and Lucy’s remained filled with temporary material.

No injuries were reported, and we did not reach the police to see if they had any leads.

The thefts also didn’t seem to rattle the business operators, either.

“I felt safe before, and I feel safe now,” Bicknell says.
