A Dallas ISD school in our neighborhood is the recipient of a new library.

After the 2019 tornadoes, half of the Cary Middle School students were moved to Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory Academy near Meadow Road and Hillcrest Road.

When that happened, people began talking about what could be done to support the new and current students, according to Dallas ISD’s The Hub.

The Dallas Education Foundation began working with the principal at Franklin IEA, and they came up with a request for a library renovation.

“Our mission is to inspire community investment to accelerate student success,” Mita Havlick, the executive director of the Dallas Education Foundation, told The Hub. “This is a perfect example of involving our community and inspiring our students.”

The community celebrated the opening of the library March 3. DISD Board President Ban Mackey, Havlick, Franklin IEA Principal De La Guardia and representatives from architecture firm Gensler, construction company Whiting-Turner, Altrusa International and Dallas ISD Facilities were there.

The Falconettes also performed a dance.
