Medical City Dallas has received an “A” on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is assigned to nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals in the nation twice annually. It uses more than 30 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) including measurements of errors, injuries, accidents, infections and systems to prevent harm.

“Patient safety is a top priority for our team,” says Chris Mowan, CEO of Medical City Dallas. “This ‘A’ rating exemplifies the excellent, high-quality care we provide and reflects our commitment to the care and improvement of human life.”

Only 33% of hospitals graded received an “A” distinction, including three other Dallas hospitals: UT Southwestern Zale Lipshy Pavilion at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, and Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital Dallas.

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Medical City Dallas for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
