Three years after the 2019 tornado that tore through Preston Hollow, Fire Station 41 is one of the few buildings that has not been restored or replaced.
In November of 2021, Dallas City Council authorized a construction contract for the replacement of the facility. Due to cost escalation from the approved contractor, the City and contractor have halted construction of the project.
As of June 22, City Council has rescinded the construction contract and is re-advertising the project. Now, the construction schedule estimates that the new contract will be re-advertised in July and awarded in August/September, and the subsequent construction will begin in October/November and complete in October/November of next year.
“While the construction timeline of the Fire Station No. 41 Replacement facility will be affected, the construction of the temporary Fire Station No. 41 is anticipated to be completed later this month (June) which will enable Dallas -Fire Rescue to provide service during construction of the permanent replacement facility,” said Assistant City Manager Robert Perez in a letter to the mayor and city council.
In a monthly newsletter, Council Member Gay Donnell Willis assures that response times will remain as quick as possible despite the construction, citing estimated response times ranging from 4-8 minutes across the district.
“Please note that all stations work in an agile fashion, with resources shared as needed for the best response and service,” Willis said in the newsletter.
