Velvet Taco is inviting customers to submit their best taco recipes for their WTF (Weekly Taco Feature) series.

The series brings a new taco every week, occasionally coinciding with holidays like National Mango Day’s mango jerk-churri taco in late July or National Breakfast Month’s Velvet Griddle or brisket hash in September.

To mix up each year’s creations, Velvet Taco first looks to its own with Taco Chef, an internal contest where chefs across all locations compete to get their recipe featured on the WTF menu in three rounds. The competition starts at the restaurant level before moving to the regional and conference level. This year’s winner is Jonathan Barrera from the Greenville location and his grand prize-winning PB&J Burger Taco recipe.

This year, however, Velvet Taco is opening up a different contest to the public this year, and residents of any city with a Velvet Taco are open to submit their taco idea online by July 25. Winners will get a chance to win a private prep session with Velvet Taco’s Culinary Innovation Director, a $250 gift card, and a featured spot on the WTF dine-in and mobile app menus to run on National Taco Day.

The entries will be judged by a panel of Velvet Taco’s chefs.

“Every taco has a story. Just like every guest has their own story or connection to our brand. The WTF contest allows our social media and most loyal fans to influence not only the menu but one of our most important aspects of our brand: the Weekly Taco Feature,” said Cassie Cooper, marketing director for Velvet Taco. “Our guests are already sending us their taco ideas organically through social media DMs, why not reward them for their creativity?”
