Welcome back to another great school year!

Welcome back, Dallas ISD! School is officially back in session and I would like to give you all a warm welcome to the start of a great 2022-23 school year. We have a new superintendent, Dr. Stephanie Elizalde, whose mission it is to “ensure that education is marked by excellence and equity for every single student,” and it is my personal goal to help fulfill  that promise.

As we step into the new school year, it is important for me to address how the district is continuing to improve safety measures for our students and faculty. This month, Dallas ISD rolled out what is known as the “Comprehensive Safety Plan,” which emphasizes cooperation among the school district and local law enforcement. More information on this can be found at dallasisd.org/safeschools.

Achievements

In other news, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced the 2021-2022 State Accountability ratings and awarded Dallas ISD a “B” rating. The last time ratings were published was two years ago, before the pandemic. This goes to show that the district’s hard work and dedication to its students and their education are ever-present. I want to congratulate North Lake Early College High School in particular for their achievement of receiving an “A” rating from TEA. My intention for all District 1 schools is to help them get closer to accomplishing their goals for this year.

Looking Forward

In September, Dallas ISD is celebrating Attendance Awareness Month with the theme, “Show Up! Attendance Matters.” The purpose of this initiative is to recognize the importance of keeping consistent attendance habits. To show their school spirit and encourage attendance, different campuses will have free dress days every Wednesday in September. September also marks the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, from Sept. 15 until Oct. 15. To commemorate, the district will be highlighting people from all over Dallas ISD who want to share their stories with us and give recognition to Hispanic Heritage Month.
