Today is Mexican Independence Day, and Preston Hollow is celebrating at our local library.

Mexican Independence Day is celebrated on September 16 annually by Mexican residents and those with Mexican heritage across the globe. The day celebrates the day in 1810 when a priest in Dolores rang his church bell and gave a speech inspiring the War of Independence from Spain.

Park Forest Branch Library at 3421 Forest Ln is celebrating this year one day late with games, music, snacks and a piñata after 5 p.m. The Grito de Dolores, a battle cry used in the war, will also be presented in honor of the holiday.
