On Monday, Mayor Eric Johnson announced the Mayor’s Youth Sports Ticket Program, a program that will provide free tickets to sporting events for Dallas residents between 12 and 17 years old.
The program includes tickets to amateur, collegiate and professional sporting events. Parents and guardians can register their children online, and after verification that participants are in the correct age group and are residents of Dallas, they will be notified each time a ticket opportunity is available. Tickets will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Each youth ticket holder will also receive a second ticket for an adult chaperone.
Some of the professional teams involved include the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Wings, Dallas Stars and FC Dallas.
“I love Dallas sports,” Johnson said. “They give us civic pride. They teach us life lessons. They inspire us. They let us dream of possibilities and greatness. And they give our children a way to stay safe and out of trouble.”
The program will be facilitated by the Dallas Sports Commission.
“One of our primary goals as an organization is to provide opportunity through sport to our community, and we’re excited to extend those efforts through the Mayor’s Youth Sports Ticket Program,” said Monica Paul, the executive director of the Dallas Sports Commission.
The new program was inspired by the Teen All Access Pass, which was awarded by the Dallas Park and Recreation and allowed residents aged 13-17 to attend places like the Dallas Zoo or the Perot Museum of Nature and Science for free. The mayor said the Teen All Access Pass was a key part of his Summer of Safety campaign. Now, the new ticket program will expand recreational opportunities for youth in Dallas.
“I am thrilled to kick off this program that will give our families something fun to do while making our city safer and more vibrant,” Johnson said.
