Portrait by Arie Van Selm

Jesuit Dallas Museum has a new exhibit by artist Arie Van Selm on display until May.

Selm is a painter originally from the Netherlands who now lives and primarily works in Dallas. His latest exhibit at Jesuit Dallas opened Jan. 12 in the Historical Library.

His subject matters draw from birds and his need to challenge himself “to execute their dynamics in an ever intriguing, evolutionary manner,” according to his artist bio.

The Dutch Impressionist painter Willem Witten first influenced Selm’s artwork. After studying in Europe, Selm’s travels to France, Mexico, Japan and influenced his style.

Outside of paintings, Selm also has a nine-foot-tall crow sculpture that was installed for the Meyerson Symphony Center. The sculpture is part of a series of crow sculptures that he has displayed across the world.
