A new art exhibition at Southside on Lamar displays the art of Dallas ISD students, including several from Hillcrest.

Spark! Prismatics, a pop-up experience built entirely by local public high school students, recently debuted at the complex on June 2 featuring the work of more than 20 students from six Dallas area high schools.

The students designed, created and built exhibits with a single color and theme to showcase their creativity. The Hillcrest team (Advisor: Karleen Hesselbacher, Creators: Inergee, Kyra, Dana, Keyla), called the Hillcrest Body Garden, constructed a garden of body parts.

The garden features an organic line painting of various green shades and tints on the wall. There is a man in the center of the room that is becoming one with nature as he becomes a plant himself, and other body parts and faces are emerging from the ground that is covered in grass, according to the press release. Two side walls are partial mirror walls that face each other representing a new dimension.

Other winning teams included Woodrow Wilson Sunjoy, Woodrow Wilson Orange You Glad to See Me, CityLab Slime, Booker T. Red Herrings and Booker T. Deep Sea Dwellers.

Timed tickets range from $18 to $23. Teachers are $18; children ages 2-17 are $21; adults 18 and up are $23; children under 2 are free. All proceeds benefit the SPARK! mission: to ignite the spark of creativity in all children. More information and hours can be found here.

Spark! Prismatic takes place from today, June 2 – Aug. 27 at 1409 South Lamar Street.
