The nonprofit Family Compass announced Erin Merryn will be the guest speaker for the 7th annual North Star Luncheon.

Family Compass is dedicated to child abuse prevention in Dallas and Collin County. To keep vulnerable children out of the child welfare system, Family Compass provides parents with in-home mentoring and support.

The North Star Luncheon is an annual fundraiser benefiting Family Compass. This year’s luncheon, presented by North Dallas Bank & Trust Co., will feature a conversation with Calvert Collins-Bratton, Chief Relationship Officer at Communities Foundation of Texas, and guest speaker Erin Merryn.

Merryn is an internationally recognized author and child abuse advocate. Her first book, “Stolen Innocence,” was based on the diary she kept while enduring years of sexual abuse as a child. She was the driving force behind Erin’s Law, which passed in her home state of Illinois in 2013 and requires that personal body safety be taught in public schools every year. It has since been passed in 37 other states.

This year’s North Star Luncheon will be held on Monday, April 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at a private country club at 4155 Mockingbird Lane. For more information, contact development@family-compass.org.
