Marshall joined the Mavericks in 2018 when then-owner Mark Cuban asked her to join the team. She was the first Black woman to lead an NBA franchise. Though she retired as CEO on Dec. 31, 2024, Marshall will stay with the team in a consulting role through the end of 2025.
The celebration, emceed by NBC5 anchor Laura Harris, welcomed over 100 attendees to Texas Capital. The event was put on by a Host Committee consisting of Marshall’s close friends and colleagues. Host committee members included former Texas House Representative Helen Giddings, Texas Women’s Foundation CEO Karen Hughes White, SoundThinking Senior Vice President Mark Page and more.
The Host Committee presented Marshall with a gift that included personal pictures and memorabilia. Friends, colleagues and local leaders took to the stage to speak about how Marshall’s leadership has impacted the community.
To conclude the program, Harris said, “You’ve been chosen … chosen by God to be an incredible servant and steward in your community. We are just oh so thankful that you chose us.”
