Kentucky Derby watch party
The Republic Texas Tavern is hosting its 7th annual Kentucky Derby watch party on Saturday, May 3, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be a best-dressed competition, themed cocktails, and raffle prizes. Derby Calcutta begins at 4:30 p.m. Tickets can be found here.
Cinco de Mayo
The holiday honors the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla; it also honors Mexican culture and heritage. Celebrate the holiday at Dallas’ annual Cinco de Mayo Parade Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to noon. It will be held at W. Jefferson Blvd. 200-900 blocks. There will be vendor booths and a special appearance from the Selena Movie’s iconic red car. The parade starts at 9 a.m. Escondido is having specials, including ancho butter fajitas, Tex-Mex pizza, tacos, and $7 margaritas on Monday.
Free Comic Book Day
Free Comic Book Day is an annual tradition celebrated on the first Saturday in May. The day encourages readers to visit local comic book stores. Keith’s Comics will be giving out comics at all its locations, including one near SMU at 5400 E Mockingbird Ln.
Springtime playtime in the park
Have some Kona Ice while you do crafts with the kids. The Preston Hollow Early Childhood Association is hosting a crafty event at Preston Hollow Park on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Southern Methodist University students are performing John Proctor is the Villain by Kimberly Belfl, Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, at the Greer Garson Theatre. The showing for Friday is at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for the showings can be found here.
