Bachman Lake Together held its annual graduation ceremony Thursday morning, celebrating its preschool graduates and parent leaders from its Community Action Network (CAN).
The ceremony recognized the students’ and parents’ achievements in the Bachman Lake community of Dallas at the Bachman Recreation Center.
Two generations of graduates walked the stage: preschool graduates from AVANCE North Texas, 19 parents from the CAN program, and 17 who completed advanced levels of the program.
“Today we celebrate a milestone not just for our parent leaders and their children, but for our entire community, Bachman Lake Together Executive Director Olga Martinez Hickman, Ph.D, said.“Our CAN graduates have stepped into their roles as advocates, leaders, and champions for early learning—and their commitment inspires us all to create a supportive environment where our children can grow and thrive.”
Parents had to complete the nine-month CAN program, where they learn to advocate for their children’s education and success, and become empowered by building leadership skills. Advanced levels of the program include mentorship, volunteer leadership roles, and training in early learning advocacy.
The ceremony concluded with the preschool graduates and parents dancing on stage to “El baile del sapito”, symbolizing the energy and unity of the families and community.
