Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is hosting a series of public hearings to gather community input on implementation of a recently approved program that reallocates sales tax collections to cities that received less service value than their contributions in 2023.

Plano, along with Addison, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Highland Park, Richardson and University Park’s service is scheduled to be amended in response to the growing concerns about sales tax equity.

The General Mobility Program is a component of the 2045 Transit System Plan by DART.

Proposed changes include the discontinuation of nine bus routes, elimination of one GoLink zone and three zone-to-zone pilot programs, reduced service frequency on light and commuter rail lines, paratransit fare increases and coverage reductions and GoLink modifications to operate from designated rally points with premium fares for curb-to-curb options.

“We understand these changes affect people’s lives,” said Jeamy Molina, DART executive vice president and chief communications officer. “That’s why we’re committed to listening to our community before any final decisions are made.”

There will be a public hearing at the DART board meeting on July 8 at 6 p.m. Prior to this,  public hearings will be held in member cities to get feedback from the changes. A hearing in Plano will be held Monday, June 16 at 1520 K Ave. from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
