Ollie, a 7-year-old Shepherd mix, was in the Humane Society of Dallas County (HSDC) for over five years until a woman named Bobbie saved him.

Since June of 2020, Ollie has watched countless dogs come and go out of the shelter. Earlier this year, Bobbie visited the shelter and couldn’t get Ollie out of her mind; he reminded her of her childhood dog, so she began visiting Ollie every week. Their bond was unbreakable, her love blossomed with Ollie, and his heart began to open with trust.

In May, Bobbie officially adopted Ollie, and he would have his forever home with her. This brought happiness and tears to the staff, volunteers, and extended Dallas Pets Alive ( DPA) and HSDC family.

“This adoption represents exactly why we merged, to amplify our lifesaving capacity and create more of these perfect, intentional matches,” Sarah McGoldrick, VP of Animal Operations, said.

“By combining DPA’s foster-based innovation and volunteer network with HSDC’s trusted shelter presence, we’re creating a stronger path to rescue,” she said.

DPA is committed to eliminating the killing of companion animals in North Texas through resources and education. Volunteers mostly run the animal-focused nonprofit; they rescue healthy pets at risk of euthanasia. DPA and HSDC merged earlier this year with the common goal of saving animals across North Texas.

“Ollie’s story is a testament to patience and love but also to what is possible when two legacy organizations align with purpose,” Leslie Sans, Executive Director of Dallas Pets Alive, said.
