Arkansas fans — and perhaps even rivals — in the neighborhood may want to pay close attention to football games this upcoming season to see a familiar face take the field.
Preston Hollow’s Olivia Sherrington earned a spot on the Razorback Pom Squad, a 24-woman team that performs at football and basketball games, as well as university events.
The graduating Hillcrest Panaders captain submitted an audition video and endured three rounds of nerve-racking tryouts at Fayetteville. Although she has danced competitively since she was 5 years old, Sherrington says the process was “super stressful.”
“That experience isn’t pom and cheer. It’s very contemporary or commercial jazz based.”
So she and her sister, Madeleine, who happens to be a former Razorback, were thrilled when they learned that she made the cut.
“It’s so fun to be in front of a crowd for me. I love to perform. I’ll probably cry at the first game, because there will be so many people.”
Sherrington isn’t the only member of Hillcrest’s drill team showcasing their talents in college. Brynn Scott, first lieutenant of the Panaders, will perform with the Texas State Strutters next year, and line member Adamarys Maruri made University of Texas at Dallas’ Power Dancers.
