W.T. White senior Deidre Thornell has won the Texas round of the Colgate Country Showdown, a singing competition that showcases the nation’s most promising country music talent.

Thornell will now advance to the next round of regional competitions in New Mexico over Thanksgiving break. If she takes that title, she’ll be heading to Nashville for the televised national competitions and a shot at $100,000.

If you’re not familiar with this homegrown rising star, you should be. You can check out her out singing “Cowboy Casanova” here after the jump. And on behalf of all of us here at Advocate, a big tip of the hat to this Longhorn for her big win.
