Back in September I blogged about a rumored opening of a new Eatzi’s at the Pavillion on Lovers Lane. That news has now been confirmed, with a grand opening date slated for Friday, Feb. 26.

This is the first time in more than three years that Eatzi’s is expanding. Circa 2003 there were several locations nationally, but only the Oak Lawn store has survived.

This new spot will certainly face some competition from nearby Celebration Market, which is just a mile down the road. True, Celebration’s grab-and-go market in that small cottage isn’t nearly as big the 4,700 square foot space that Eatzi’s will occupy. And they don’t have nearly the same selection — Eatzi’s will offer more than 80 varieties of cheese and 100 wines, for example. But Celebration has a longstanding history in our neighborhood, and to some neighbors, that may matter more. I (and my stomach) would like to think there’s plenty of room for Eatzi’s chocolate oblivion shots and Celebration’s cowpokes to coexist happily.

Right now Eatzi’s is giving neighbors a chance to win at $500 gift card. If you tell them in 200 words or less why you love Eatzi’s, you could win the prize. A winner will be selected April 16, and you can submit your entry via email.
