Ashley Miller, granddaughter of long-time Preston Hollow resident Mike Miller

Mike Miller has been serving up specialty beverages through his business Drinks Fantastic at Preston and Forest for almost 20 years. And when his 15-year-old granddaughter, Ashley, was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, the community offered immense support.

“The outpour of prayer has been overwhelming,” says Miller, who has lived in Preston Hollow for 37 years.

Ashley and her parents, who live in Celina, got the news in early April. She went to the doctor after feeling weak and tired. It turned out to be Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and fast-growing form of cancer. She spent five weeks in the hospital and returns each week for chemotherapy treatment. Sometimes she spends one day, sometimes maybe four.

“It’s a continuous back-and-forth,” Miller says.

And doctors expect it to continue over the next year or so.

“Hopefully, the cells will get killed, and she’ll be on the road to recovery,” Miller says.

Medical bills have amounted to nearly $500,000. Miller has begun planning a fundraiser for Ashley, right here in the neighborhood, with details to come. For now, the family is reaching out for prayers and words of encouragement. Show your support by emailing Miller at mike@drinksfantastic.com.
