David Haynes, football coach at Thomas Jefferson High School, is one of just 20 coaches in the country to receive the Positive Coaching Alliance’s Double-Goal Coach Award.

Presented by Liberty Mutual, the awards recognize coaches who help athletes grow not just on the field but in all aspects of life. Recipients are given a a trophy, $250 and appearances in newsletters and media campaigns for the Positive Coaching Alliance, a national nonprofit that provides character-building programs for youth.

Haynes led the TJ football team, breaking its 36-game losing streak last fall. The Dallas Morning News reported that the team had not won a game in more than four years – until last September when they beat Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis, 19-16.
