Tom C. Gooch Elementary School fifth-graders will help transform parking spaces downtown Dallas into temporary parks beginning 1 p.m. Sept. 21. The PARK(ing) Day project is along Main and and Akard streets where children will transform the spaces into small, yet fun and inviting zones. No quarters are needed to come stop by these spots.

Step out of the house and Walk to End Alzheimer’s at 9 a.m. Sept. 22. The walk route at Reverchon Park  is about two miles and is wheelchair and stroller accessible. You can even deck out your dogs in purple and bring them along for some exercise too. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. for the event to raise awareness and funds for care, support and research.

Eat delectable food prepared by more than a dozen of Dallas/Fort Worth’s culinary champs at the fourth annual Food for Thought event 7-11 p.m. Sept. 22. The event is at the Frontiers of Flight Museum and will benefit Big Thought, a Dallas-based nonprofit that provides creative and educational programs to help children excel. Chefs will prepare tastes of their signature dishes, live entertainment and an open bar will help with the mingling, and a silent auction and awards presentation will take place.
