A 17-year-old W.T. White student was arrested Wednesday morning after a teacher discovered a loaded pistol in his backpack, according to a DMN blog post.
Cristian Ramirez is a self-confessed gang member; he told police that a non-student gave him the gun, which made it through campus security and into a classroom. According to the DMN, the student didn’t threaten anyone with the gun, which was discovered after a teacher thought the student was acting in an unusual manner.
Ramirez was being held on a $1,500 bond, and could be facing charges on a third-degree felony that could result in a sentence of up to five years in prison. White’s principal, Michelle Thompson, told the DMN she would be reviewing and tightening school security, and Thompson also sent a letter detailing the issue to parents.
