Skip Hollandsworth of Texas Monthly will speak at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church as a part of its monthly “Friday Talk Series.” Doors open at 11:45 a.m. Feb. 1 and the program starts at 12:15 p.m. Hollandsworth not only writes for the popular magazine, but he also co-wrote the movie Bernie based off a story he wrote for Texas Monthly titled “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas.” Hollandsworth, the son of a Presbyterian minister, is set to give a spin on the Bernie story. Darryl Purpose is back after a 10-year-hiatus from his musical career to release his first CD with original material in the past decade, and he’s opening at Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse 8 p.m. Feb. 1. Tom Faulkner will follow, performing his unique blend of Texas rock, blues, Cajun and Tejano music.

Incrementum III, an art auction featuring the works of 100 local artists will take place at the Gallery at Midtown 7 p.m.-11 p.m. Feb. 2. All proceeds will benefit Alley’s House, a local nonprofit that empowers teen mothers to achieve independence. The event also includes beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and live jazz music from The Brehms.
