What started out as a stiff competition between fourth through sixth grade Providence students quickly dwindled down to three.

Sixth grader Scott Rayborn won first place in the school’s geography bee, Jackson Mechmem placed second and Drew Messick placed third.

The students had to answer questions like, “Which country is not crossed by the Orange River–Lesotho, South Africa, or Central African Republic?” and “To visit the National Museum in Bamako and to take a boat trip on the Niger River, you would travel to what country?”

Finalists have a chance to represent the school in the National Geographic Bee at state level.
