Kathleen B. Donovan, St. Alcuin Montessori School teaching assistant, was recently honored for her photo of student Sophia Brisbon that is titled, “Sophia Waiting, Hardhat Series.”

Donovan was awarded the Best Two-Dimensional Prize in Mitchell Gallery’s “Less is More: Small Works in Great Space” for 2013.

“I started working with Sophia a year ago because her beauty is timeless and she appeared to have wisdom beyond her years. I have created an ongoing project photographing her in various settings,” Donovan says via news release. “The results are always unexpected, but yet somehow true to the light she carries. When I decided to use my father’s old oilfield hardhat, which I had seen since I was a child, it seemed like an interesting combination.”
