Looking for a way to get involved in National Night Out? One event incorporates food and wine, hosted in a neighbor’s backyard vineyard.

The Briarwood neighborhood between Lovers and Northwest Highway presents “A Taste of Lovers” Tuesday, Oct. 1 with food from Preston Hollow restaurants, including Eatzi’s, Empire Bakery, Campisi’s and Rex’s Seafood. Close to 100 people are expected to attend this year.

Mayor Mike Rawlings and Councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates are scheduled to appear as well as the Northwest Patrol Division police chief David Pughes (read our Q&A with Pughes back when he came on as chief). For the kids, there’ll be McGruff the crime dog and a fire truck tour.

The event is 6-8 p.m. Here’s the info on how to get there, from the event organizers: The vineyard is in the backyard of one of the neighbors whose house fronts Inwood Road (8123 Inwood)  However, the entrance to the vineyard (and his backyard) is in the 8200 block of Menier Street, which skirts the back of the property. Menier is one block west of Inwood on Lovers Lane.  From Inwood heading west on Lovers, take right at Menier (7-11 on corner) – entrance to the vineyard is two blocks north and on the right.

National Night Out is an annual event that raises awareness about crime prevention.
