“Chicken,” by Julie McNair: Norwood Flynn Gallery

Julie McNair attended Thomas Jefferson High School before going on to teach art in Wyoming, Texas, Mississippi, and finally settling down in Telluride, Colorado. After operating her own gallery for 17 years, she now devotes herself to working full-time in her mountainside studio.

This weekend, McNair travels to the locale of her youth to present her latest exhibit “New Works: Sculpture by Julie McNair,” at the Norwood Flynn Gallery.

Her ceramic sculpture uses the human form to explore man’s relationship to nature with a sense of humor and humility.

“For many years I have explored the figure in my work,” McNair says. “It has now become my primary format, my canvas.”

“I choose standing figures because I like the vulnerability – physically fragile clay and emotionally fragile humans,” she says.

“New Works: Sculpture by Julie McNair” runs Nov. 9-Dec. 7, with an artist’s reception from 6-8 p.m. on Nov. 9. The exhibit and reception are both free. Call 214-351-3318 or click here for additional information.
