Our neighborhood is transforming. Soon the Preston Center will have a new slathering of retail options. And then there’s the new homes coming at the Forestwood development. And the Northaven Trail will soon be an east-west connector of the Dallas trail system.

All these projects cost millions and millions of dollars, the going rate of construction in Dallas. Back in 2009, we sat down with Patrick Kennedy, urban designer with RTKL, whose projects include the Mockingbird Station, State-Thomas and DeSoto Town Center developments. We gave him $100 million fictitious dollars and let him have near-total freedom to design the walkable haven the city has long touted.
