Golfer and Jesuit alum Jordan Spieth played at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, where he told The Dallas Morning News that he’s out of his slump.

“I know what I have needed to work on, and I knew it was going to take a lot of time,” Spieth told the News. “It’s nice to see some results off what I believe is the progress I’ve been making. At the same time, it’s one round. I’ve got to keep my head down and keep working.”

Spieth was 21 when he tied Tiger Woods’ Masters record of 18 under par. He was 22 when he claimed the world’s No. 1 ranking. He was 23 when a British Open win at Royal Birkdale made him a three-time major champion.

Josh Bell, a first base player for the Pittsburgh Pirates was also in Spieth’s class of 2011 at Jesuit. Here’s how Bell deals with challenges: “Failure is a great teacher. You can work your tail off and not see results. I had to look myself in the mirror and realize that this jersey might get taken off my back.”

So much talent from our neighborhood!
