I would like to take a moment to wish happy holidays to all District 1 families. Let us reflect on the lessons we have learned this year and look forward to being better as a district in 2022.

While 2021 has been a challenging year, we have shown that Dallas ISD is willing to take proactive steps to ensure that our staff and students attend school in a safe environment while we address unfinished learning. As we head into the holiday season, don’t forget to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of COVID and remain healthy.

With the safety and well-being of staff and students in mind, we will continue to offer and share vaccination opportunities and extend the $50 vaccination incentive to fully vaccinated students ages 5-11. To apply for the incentive, parents or guardians need to fill out the form and submit proof of vaccination by March 31, 2022. This new incentive does not apply to students ages 12 and older whose incentive window closed in November. Although participation is voluntary, this information will help us determine how many students have been fully vaccinated and better prepare to take measures against COVID.

To apply for the incentive, families can visit www.dallasisd.org/studentvaxincentive.

Applications for choice and magnet programs are open through January

The application period for the district’s choice programs is open through January. Now more than ever, Dallas ISD families have a wider variety of options to choose from, with over 100 choice schools and programs offered in our neighborhood and choice schools. For more information on our academic offerings, please visitwww.dallasisd.org/choosedallasisd, or join us for an in-person informational event at 6 p.m. on Jan. 13 at Townview Center or Skyline High School. This is just the beginning, and now we’ll see how our efforts translate into bringing more students to classrooms.

Meals will continue to be provided during the Christmas break

To ensure that all children 18 years and younger have access to food during the winter holidays, we will provide free curbside “grab-’n-go” meals on Dec. 20 and Dec. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or while supplies last. These boxes will include a week’s worth of meals for every child. To find a school location near you, visit www.Dallasisd.org/FCNS.

Join us for Dallas ISD’s STEM Expo

On Saturday, Jan. 22, Dallas ISD will be hosting its annual STEM Expo, the largest of its kind in Texas. This will be a digital experience to bring our community together to explore, design, build and create a brighter future. Exhibits will include activities and championships for elementary, middle, and high school students and parents. For more information, you can visit www.dallasisd.org/stemexpo.
