Two Preston Hollow residents, both single moms, recently opened a Petbar grooming business in our neighborhood.

And for Kristi Long and Trish Judson, it’s just the beginning.

Long is a chiropractor by trade. She used to have a practice in Lakewood, and for the past several years, she has had an office in Preston Center. Long has seven kids, now between the ages of 9 and 19. Two are in college, and the others attend Ursuline Academy of Dallas, Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and St. Rita Catholic School.

Long and Judson met because they both sent their kids to Jesuit. They call themselves “bleacher friends” because of all the time they spent watching their kids play sports. Judson, whose background is in the fitness industry, has two children in college and one at Christ the King Catholic School.

They knew they wanted to open a business together. While they had plans to create a startup, the COVID-19 pandemic changed their minds.

“I’ve always said I’d love to get dogs or animals in general into my portfolio,” Long says. “And during COVID, everybody was buying puppies and dogs, and myself included.”

Judson approached Long with the Petbar prospectus. Not long after, they purchased the rights to seven franchises. Their first location opened recently at the corner of Inwood Road and Forest Lane.

“There’s a lot of need for it here,” Long says.

The Forestwood Shopping Center location is larger than the corporate stores and will carry organic pet foods.

Long says they have plans to open one more in Preston Hollow, though a specific location hasn’t been selected.
