Dallas councilmembers joined city leaders to celebrate the opening of the new workforce center in the Dallas International District earlier this month.

The “first-of-its-kind” American Job Center is led by Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas and will provide opportunities for job seekers. Dallas Workforce Solutions just celebrated its 40th anniversary as being an economic engine in helping the community find jobs. They have been a key leader in providing adequate resources for job training, job placement, and job retention in services.

“This workforce center is a lifeline for those in need of extra support,” Willis said. “It will help us work cooperatively with our schools and local nonprofits to ensure that Dallas businesses have the talent they need. It will also help upskill residents who need access to a job coach, GED support, and additional job training.”

Not only will it help the Dallas community be more open to workforce opportunities, but it also multi-tasks as putting Dallas as an innovative leader in economic development. The new workforce center is located in the space that was formerly the Valley View Mall and Galleria Dallas. Councilmember Gay Willis of District 13 was present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“Dallas is powered by our residents, and we are leading the nation in the growth of foreign-born residents who are coming to Dallas to build businesses, start families, and help Dallas grow into a global city,” District 11 Councilmember Jaynie Schultz said. “I am thrilled to be adding an American Job Center to help our larger North Dallas community and focus resources on our growing international community in the Dallas International District.”

Workforce Solutions will host its first Texas Career Day on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to help middle and high school students start thinking about potential careers. Along with its inaugural event, Workforce Solutions has job fairs regularly that can be found on its website
