Each holiday season, NorthPark Center eagerly anticipates the arrival of its jolliest guest, Santa Claus, who will return Friday, Nov. 24, until Christmas Eve, and we interviewed the man of the hour before he kicks off the season.

The annual tradition at NorthPark continues and sees nearly 4,500 children each year visit with Santa. Last year, NorthPark introduced Joel Lagrone as the new Santa. Funds from Santa visits benefit Children’s Health and last year raised $270,000.

A stocking full of Santa-themed activities is planned throughout the holiday season, including the essential visit with Santa from Nov. 24 to Dec. 24, located on level one near Macy’s Court. Santa will be ready for visits starting Nov. 24, including one-on-one sessions and portraits.

Other activities include Stories and Songs and breakfast with Santa. Families can book their appointment with Santa on NorthPark’s website and view the full schedule and more information.

What are you looking forward to this season at NorthPark?

Of course, NorthPark Center is a delightful place to visit during the season with its gorgeous decor and festive programs, but seeing the children and their smiling faces in person is such a joy—especially getting to tell them stories and have them sing along with me! And it means the world to be able to raise funding for Children’s Health and deliver some happiness in person to those in the hospital.

What are the most common things kids ask for each year/what do you think they’ll ask this year?

LEGOs continue to be high on the list, from dollhouses to Star Wars Jedi Shuttles. LEGOs will never go out of style!

How has the North Pole been and how does it compare to NorthPark?

The North Pole has been busy, busy, busy… and COLD! NorthPark will definitely be more relaxed as I’m able to chat with children and their families during this wonderful time of year.

What does Santa want for Christmas?

Christmas is for everyone—children of all ages! My favorite gift is to know a child will reach out in kindness and respect to ones less fortunate than us, with a smile or a wave, a helping hand or a hug. A gift of love!

What does Santa and Mrs. Claus have planned for Christmas Eve?

Once I do my last storytime and visits at NorthPark on Christmas Eve, I’ll head back to the North Pole, where Mrs. Claus will have one last hot meal for me. She’ll give me my final notes from the Naughty and Nice List, and off I’ll go on my journey across the world!
