District 11 Dallas City Councilwoman Jaynie Shultz will unveil an exhibition honoring Dr. George E. Keaton, Jr. during Black History Month, with special guest the grandmother of Juneteenth, Opal Lee.

Keaton was best known for his efforts in organizing city tours and educating others on North Dallas’ history. He was the founder and executive director of Remembering Black Dallas. He passed away in 2022 at 66.

“I became aware of this fascinating history during my time on the City Plan Commission,” Shultz shared. “Determined to share this knowledge, we have curated an exhibition that pays tribute to the people and places that still exist, reflecting this important story.”

The North Dallas Black History exhibit will highlight African American history in the area, opening this weekend and running through March.

“This exhibition provides a unique opportunity for our community to learn about and celebrate the incredible contributions of African Americans to the growth and development of north Dallas,” Schultz said.

The free exhibition opening will take place at the Prism Center on Feb. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m.
